A few weeks ago I spotted an ad for a ‘festive beer tasting’
at Whole Foods Market in Kensington, the flagship UK branch of the US healthy
supermarket chain. It seemed a snip, promising 6 beers for about 10 quid and I
promptly booked some tickets. The first beer on the list was BrewDog Santa
Paws. The UK beer scene seems to have a love/hate relationship with BrewDog.
They’ve built a reputation for brewing some stupendous beers, yet at the same
time some of their business practises and their perceived pretentiousness (amongst
other things) have been criticised in some quarters. Bizarrely this was the
first time I’d ever tried a BrewDog beer. I’ve never actively turned down a BrewDog beer but at
the same time their negative reputation has, perhaps subconsciously, stopped me
from drinking any before. Santa Paws was previously a hefty 8.5% ABV but the
revised version that we drank checked in at 4.5%. This is a lovely beer, it
pours a dark brown and is heavy on the malt giving it some lovely chocolatey
roasted flavours with a nice full body.
Brewery: BrewDog
Country: United Kingdom
ABV: 4.5%
