Beer #268 - Redchurch Hackney Gold

Yet another new London brewery to both me and the blog, welcome Redchurch Brewery. Based in Bethnal Green the brewery has, I would say, a reasonably high profile across the city with plenty of stockists, yet at the same time it doesn’t quite garner the same hype or fanfare of other breweries. Which could well be the reason that, until now, I’ve overlooked their beers. Enough was enough, I recently decided, and picked up a bottle of Hackney Gold. The Gold in the name is a bit of a misnomer as this pours a dark red/amber colour. The aroma is off tropical fruits with a toffee hit in there too. The taste is bitter, oof it’s bitter, strong and tangy citrus fruit and a decent dose of earthiness, the hops really give you a smack in the mouth. There is caramel in the flavour too but the hops really dominate and it’s a little too high on the bitter side for me, aficionados of new world hops will no doubt love this one though.

Brewery: Redchurch Brewery
Country: United Kingdom
ABV: 5.5%
