Another foray into the Trappist world with this Westmalle Tripel that has been ageing away in my beer cupboard for a few months. Unlike the Westmalle Dubbel this is a golden beer rather than a dark brown that I've come to expect from heavy duty Trappist beers. This has a lot of up-front bitterness that is carried through to a bitter, boozy finish. It has some nice bready flavours with a hint of sweetness but I found a touch too bitter and the booziness is a bit too prominent for my tastes. A good beer but nowhere near being my first choice of Trappist ale.
