I covered La Chouffe's Christmas beer in December but until now hadn't actually tried the original. This is a mainstream Belgian strong ale I guess, readily available in supermarkets across the country. Much like the Westmalle Tripel I posted the other day this is a big boozy number with a hefty dose of bitterness. That unmistakable Belgian banana-esque yeast flavour is there too and there are some enjoyable spicy hints too. Much like the Westmalle I found the alcohol just a touch too prominent in this one and it was less enjoyable than the Christmas offering too.
Brewery: Brasserie d’Achouffe (Moortgat)
