Beer #31 - Betty Stogs

Betty Stogs is another great English bitter, produced in Cornwall by Skinners Brewery. Awarded the title of Champion Best Bitter of England which underlines its credenitals, it’s tasty easy drinking copper ale. The unusual name (and pump clip) is based on a Cornish folk tale. Betty Stogs was an unkempt and untidy woman living on the Cornish moors. Her neglected baby one day disappeared causing Betty much consternation. The baby had been taken by fairies who had cleaned the child in the morning dew and left it lying on a bed of moss. The disappearance of the baby and the fear of her husband’s wrath prompted Betty to change her ways and they all lived happily ever after. Probably.
