Beer #358 - N'Ice Chouffe

Another second trip to mainland Europe in two weeks, this time to visit my girlfriends sister in Maastricht, led me to picking up this bottle of N'Ice Chouffe. I didn't get a chance to visit any specialist beer places whilst away and this was the most interesting thing on the supermarket shelves. It's not Dutch, but the only Dutch beers available were lagers, so a Belgian beer seemed the obvious choice. This Christmas/Winter brew checks in at a nice round 10% although the alcohol is well hidden. The beer is dark, rich and warming with wonderful caramel and and dark fruit notes. The flavours are set off with a very feint hint of spices, and they are feint, which lends the beer a festive air. Very good indeed and at this time of the year its hard to beat strong Belgian ales especially when like this, the high alcohol content is well masked.

Brewery: Brewery Achouffe
Country: Belgium
ABV: 10.0%
