Beer #37 – Wandle

Wandle was the first beer produced by Battersea’s Sambrook’s Brewery and has become something of a London pub mainstay since its launch in 2008. It’s a pretty tasty bitter that has gained a significant following and indeed was awarded the slightly wordy title of 'World's Best Pale Bitter up to 5%' at the 2012 World Beer Awards. The beer takes its name from the River Wandle, one of London’s little known tributaries of the Thames. In fact all of Sambrook’s beers have names linked in some way to the area surrounding the brewery, unfortunately Wandle is so popular that I’m yet to try any of the others. I had a classic Lovely Drop moment when ordering this as a guy next to me at the bar was slating real ale while ordering a pint of lager, the barman duly informed that Wandle 'is the best thing in here', which I quite enjoyed.
