Beer #324 - BrewDog 5am Saint

Following on from my last post I followed the Dead Pony Club with a bottle of 5am Saint. This was a completely different kettle of fish but probably an equally good beer. Along with the St Peter's Ruby Red Ale I tried a couple of weeks ago this beer has made me alter my perception of 'red' beers. The beer pours a dark, deep red and has a complex flavour; finely balancing some beautifully rich, sweet caramel malts with some floral hops and a decent dose of bitterness. This is really great - a modern twist on a classic style that doesn't rely on a hop-overload to blow you away and instead making decent use of malts. A really good beer. On the back of these two I will definitely try and sample more of BrewDog's stuff in the future, but the fact that you can now get these beers pretty much anywhere is a testament to how far quality British beers have come.
