It's been a while since I'd had any new Camden Town beers - well over 12 months in fact - and now you're going to see two in a row. A trip to an Indian restaurant that allowed BYOB meant a quick dash to Waitrose and a bottle or two of Camden Pils, it seemed the most appropriate choice to go with a curry (although I also grabbed a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale). I'm far from a Pils expert - in fact that is something I need to address - but this is a good beer. This is light in body, crisp and refreshing and very drinkable. There is also a hearty dose of citrus hop flavours and a clean, bitter finish, which lends it the character of an American-style pale ale. Pretty good.

Beer #109 - Camden Ink
Following on from my last post the second beer I had at the
Slaughtered Lamb was Camden Ink, Camden Town Brewery’s signature stout. I’ve
been getting into stouts and porters a bit more lately, a few years ago I
wouldn’t have touched them but I’m finding them increasingly enjoyable. This
was another good one, I got a lot of coffee in the taste which was enjoyable, I
found it pretty rich yet smooth. I don’t think I could handle a session on
stout yet but at least I can appreciate the odd glass!

Beer #108 - Camden Gentleman's Wit
Last week I went to The Slaughtered Lamb in Clerkenwell to
watch the excellent Otis Gibbs, a country singer from Wanamaker, Indiana. The
Slaughtered Lamb is yet another pub in the Clerkenwell area that prides itself
on its beer selection. They had a couple of Camden beers on tap that I hadn't previously tried. First up I had a Gentleman’s Wit. This is a
wheat beer flavoured with lemons and bergamot. I’m far from a wheat beer connoisseur,
in fact I’m 98% certain that you could count the number of wheat beers I’ve
drunk on one hand. This was really excellent though and it’s certainly made me
want to try more. The lemon flavour is very prevalent and there is a definite
spiciness to it too. Very good.

Beer #96 - Camden Hells Lager
My final choice on Monday was a pint of Camden Town Brewery’s
Hells Lager. I wouldn’t usually choose a lager (for which read: ever) when in a
pub but I fancied trying something different, so here I was. I’ve had a lot of
generic, mostly foreign, lagers in my time so I was interested to see what a
highly-regarded, small-scale brewery did with lager. Now I know even less about
lager than I do about other beer but according to the blurb this combines Helles
and Pilsener. It was…interesting. I certainly wouldn’t drink it regularly but
compared to mass-produced lager this is a clear winner.

Beer #48 - Camden Pale Ale
Last Thursday was my girlfriend's birthday and in the evening we had dinner at Upstairs at the Ten Bells, the restaurant that opened (relatively) recently above Spitalfields' historic Ten Bells pub. I was pretty pleased to see that they offered three different Camden Town Brewery beers on offer. I went for the Camden Pale Ale, an American style pale ale made with a mix of half a dozen hops. This was a very nice example of the style with the typical citrus-y flavour that is certainly starting to grow on me, lots of big fruity flavours. Very nice!Brewery: Camden Town Brewery
